Giveaway Day!

I got this huge stash of upholstery fabrics and it was an awesome find, but there is too much. (I know, too much fabric, who would have thought??). At the rate I'm going, I'll have to beat out Methuselah in order to use it all. And soooo when Sew Mama Sew announced another giveaway, I knew just the thing.

The giveaway winner will receive a USPS flat rate box filled with their choice from the fabric sample pieces below. Don't tell me your preferences in the comments - I want to hear something interesting. ;) I'll ask the winner for their choices via email. To enter, please give me ideas for projects to do with the rest of the samples. (I really need ideas!) You can earn an additional entry by leaving a (relevant) comment on any other post in my blog history.

Giveaway will close on May 20th at midnight. The winner will be chosen at random, and I will ship internationally.

And without further ado, on to the fabrics:

These pieces are microsuade and approximately 10" x 15".

These are silk and each approximately one foot square.

These two are linen or linen/cotton blend fabrics, all of which are washable (and have been prewashed). I do not know if any of the other fabrics can be washed. Three pieces are slightly larger, but most are 12" square.

These fabrics are a synthetic blend, and the weight is like a medium wool. The pieces vary in size from about 5" x 15" to 12" x 15". They seem like they would be nice for coin purses or other small bags.

These pieces are all velvet and they are smaller than the rest, about 6" square.

  3. Oh I just got a wee bit over-excited when I saw this... I have JUST THE PROJECT for you... I do!

Head to your local thift shop & pick up an old, yet solid, fabric covered chair for a song. Spend too much time & energy handsewing upholstry fabric patches onto it to make it nigh on the funkiest chair ever.

I did it. It was just a about worth it too... ;)

Here is a pic if you are interested in tying yourself up in such a project for a couple of weeks!

Meanwhile, I will cross my fingers & toes - I have a footstool that needs a revamp...!

  4. Above comentators are right these fabrics want to be bags, purses and totes. To take it further, I suggest making a tote or a carry all using your own design fabric (print on fabric using freezer paper and normal printer). That's one of the top things on my do to list.

    ReplyDelete
  5. How about using some of it to make softees:-)

    ReplyDelete
  6. I would love to make a quilt with the striped material thanks for the chance.

  7. Ohh how pretty. I already see more totes in great colors and with fun details to carry around all my crafty projects. What great fabrics you have here.

  8. Years ago a friend of mine made a rug using this type of fabrics. I do think they would make great tote bags. Thanks for participating in SMS giveaway day. And thanks for entering me!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I seems that you have plenty of totes & purses to make... I'm sure you've already thought of small pillows for your sofa (I tend to use big squares as a middle part, and then stripes to enlarge it on the sides in a matching color).
But what about placemats? This would allow you to use the small velvet pieces too, as a pocket for cutlery sewn on the side of your placemat.
And finally, with lefovers, why not make flower embellishments for your clothes, bags, shoes...?
Have a good time thinking about that... and thinking about giving away some to me! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  100. Not sure about the bigger pieces, but would definitely make little change purses out of the velvet at the end.

    ReplyDelete
  101. How about making a patchwork slipcover out of the washable linens?
I'd make the ultrasuede into fabric flower bouquets, headbands and coasters. Those would all make great Christmas presents.
The silks would have to become zippered pouches, because I know how to make those. Or perhaps dress up clothes for my kids' dolls.
The velvets I would make into lovely fabric covered buttons and replace all of my boring buttons on my winter sweaters, shawls and coats with awesome ones. If there was any leftover, I would make a variegated patchwork winter muff to keep my hands warm. And probably one for my eldest, as she would want one too.
Did I get them all? Happy crafting! I'm sure I'll think of more ideas for you. I can't wait to see what you do with them!

  104. Do you know, or have since I didn't read all of your profile rather just recent posts, anyone who has a young daughter? Some of these fabrics seem to me, at least, to be excellent for sewing doll clothes or items for a doll (and since some of these are a smaller size they'd really be perfect for that!). Maybe for said girl's birthday or an early start on Christmas gifts? I know I'm considering something similar for my niece for Christmas. You have a great blog, thanks so much for your postings. I think they're clever and not too boring (but in truth I know a ton of engineers!). Fawn

  105. Lovely fabrics/samples - there are a lot of things you can do with them! First off, of course, is bags - upholstery samples are wonderful for bags. You can also do zipper bags and accessories to go IN the bags :) Book/journal covers ... tablerunners ... throw pillows ... fabric baskets ... I've used upholstery fabric for quilts, and a few large/ugly pieces got used to back cage quilts for a shelter (they were washable and sturdy - perfect!).

You can also use that basic shape, make a sandwich with some heavy interfacing, attach a strap and voila!...instant evening clutch. The velvet pieces I would patchwork together for a throw pillow. Some of home dec weight pieces I might scrap together for placemats. Not sure what to do w/ the microsuede. Great, great giveaway.

    Microsuede pet pillows?...

Are the linen pieces a suitable thickness for napkins or placemats?
